Our school SMSC vision statement
Laycock Primary School recognizes that the spiritual, moral, social and cultural element of pupil’s education is crucial to their development as an individual and a global citizen. SMSC is about the values our pupils demonstrate, their attitudes towards learning, socializing and the world’s society. We believe SMSC is fundamental in preparing children to become 21st Century learners prepared for life in Modern Britain.
Through a positive caring environment, we provide the opportunity for every child to reach their full potential. We celebrate our school values, including British Values and SMSC values, to ensure all children are ready for their next steps.
See how we implement SMSC within our SMSC policy.
Why do we teach them?
The Department for Education (DfE) set out obligations for maintained schools to teach and promote British Values under the Education Act (2002).
Within this, we are required to (and, quite frankly believe in and enjoy) teach children the fundamentals of spiritual, moral, cultural, metal and physical development. Within these guidelines, we teach British Values and SMSC within our curriculum, assemblies, discussion and vision and values.
