08 Aug Black History Month
October is Black History Month. To celebrate this important month, we will be focusing on famous icons/ events throughout history. We have tried to link these icons to our current curriculum topics and will be doing a week of work (15th – 19th October) to commemorate these important figures/ events. At the end of the week (19th October), parents will be invited in to visit an exhibition of your children’s work.
The icons/ events and year groups covering them are as follows:
Year 1 – Nelson Mandela
Year 2 – Windrush (links to Transport topic)
Year 3 – Mary Seacole (links to Victorians topic)
Year 4 – Roman Emperor Caracalla (links to Romans topic)
Year 5 – Maya Angelo
Year 6 – Jesse Owens (links to WWII topic).
On Thursday 18th October, there will be an assembly for the children and Years 5 & 6 will be taking part in a drumming workshop. Please discuss Black History Month and what they are learning in school with your children.
