Black History Month UK is a celebration of black history that takes place 1-31 October every year. In 2020 is was the 33rd UK Black History Month will be celebrated. The first ever ‘BHM’ was in 1987.
During the month celebration, our children explore, celebrate and share experiences and knowledge of black history. Some examples of this are:
Learning about and taking part in their very own Carnival
Studying black artists and re-creating their work
Exploring black authors through English
Learning about historical and current black role models
In the year of 2021, we looked into where children’s cultural background across the school came from within our BHM celebration and teaching.
